Gull Rock Lighthouse Interior Rehabilitation

The post-work site visit for the 2010 MLAP lighthouse grant for the interior rehabilitation at the Gull Rock Lighthouse was conducted on Wednesday, August 1, 2012.

The completion of the work under the MLAP grant has made a significant improvement to the interior of the lighthouse both structurally and visually.  The work included the installation of new floor joists and plywood floors for both the first and second floors.  The new floors, combined with the open windows, have made a remarkable difference in the experience of visiting the interior of the light.  All floor areas are now structurally sound, all areas are accessible, and the interior can now be used for future work at the site.  In addition, the light and air from the windows make a huge improvement in experiencing the spaces.

Overall, the work completed is very good and is a tremendous improvement over the pre-project conditions.  The completion of this work will no doubt contribute to future work and accessibility for visitors.

The work that has been completed complies with the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for Rehabilitation.
