Cheboygan River Front Range Light

The final site visit for the MLAP grant for the Cheboygan River Front Range Light was conducted on Wednesday, December 2, 2009.  Driving up to the light, I immediately noticed the drastic change in the appearance of the lantern room as a result of the work.  The lantern room went from white aluminum siding to black metal panels that replicate the historic material.

We met on site with Ken Czapski, U.P. Engineers & Architects, Inc. who was the architect for the project, and Terry Pepper with the Great Lakes Lighthouse Keepers Association.  The work under our grant included the residing of the lantern room, a new metal roof, deteriorated wood repair/replacement, and repair and painting of the gallery deck.  Additional work on the interior included adding steel reinforcement to the timber frame structure.  At some point, the Coast Guard cut a portion of the timber bracing out to accomodate a medicine cabinet in the bathroom!

Mihm Enterprises, Inc. was the contractor for the work.  The work looks great and it was a smooth project from all perspectives.  Thanks to everyone for a great job.
